19th Century silk robe made to be worn in the hamam but elegant enough for evening. For centuries the hamam was an integral part of community life. It was very much a social meeting place with a style of its own.
This intricately quilted robe is layered with lightweight cotton for warmth. The layering gives it a sculptural effect with chevrons and stylized flowers. Many hours of highly skilled labor created this dramatic yet subtle garment. In an exquisite shade of mint. With two false pockets. Very good condition.
