About Susan Simon
Susan Simon, New York based designer and antique textile specialist, is considered one of today’s important resources for America’s top designers, interior decorators, and private collectors. Susan’s passionate interest in design, material culture, and textiles inspired her to assemble a collection from the world’s once richest places for textiles and needle trades. From the chateaus, and fashion houses of Europe to the grand bazaars of Central Asia, India, Turkey and Morocco, Susan has brought together a rich and varied collection of 18th, 19th and 20th century textiles, clothing and accessories.
A career begun in photography, Susan holds a degree from the Newhouse School of Communications in photojournalism. Her first job in New York in the studio of a fashion and illustration photographer brought her particular notice from art directors and magazine editors for her styling skills.
Her growing interest in design led to building her own handbag company, and her collections were featured regularly in Henri Bendel and Bergdorf Goodman. Susan was also hired to design handbag collections for Coach. As one of Coach’s lead designers during a time of rapid growth Susan designed and developed numerous major product introductions which included handbags, small leather goods, luggage, silk scarves, and gloves.
Attention to detail with an eye for excellence inspires her to create a rich visual world whether it be in home styling projects or on buying journeys to find unique and rare textiles, and clothing. Susan is inspired by opera, art and history as well as contemporary culture. She brings together a curated collection of beautiful textile arts and objects.
