Hand-dyed and hand-woven, this beautiful piece was made with chain-stitch embroidery. The technique originated in Northwest India and was first used in leather design. It is created with a very fine hook called an "ari".

Chain-stitch embroidery is one of the earliest embroidery stitches practiced in India. Traditional designs were created by professional embroiderers and included parrots and flowers as seen here, or peacocks, paisley, and human forms.
The rustic and unusual colors make this textile quite collectible. In very good condition with a 1.5" x 1" gash at a bottom edge.
